Asus released the eee pc 1000he linux in the late 2007, and the netbook/subnotebook is a member of the Asus Eee family. The machine is available at a low cost; more recent models are now able to run the Windows XP operating system.

The manufacturer, Asus, states that the Eee comes from "the 3 Es" which derives from an advertising slogan for "easy to play, easy to work, and easy to learn".

If you are looking to get a netbook computer, the 1000He comes very highly recommended, and is said to offer the best value for the money among all netbooks currently on sale. Originally Asus netbooks had the flaw of the shift key being in the wrong position on the keyboard; in the 1000HE that flaw has been fixed. The netbook sports a 10 " screen which should be adequate for most adults considering getting a netbook. However, if your hands are big and your eyesight is poor, it may not be the best choice for you.

The machine has the standard 1024 x 600 display and has 1GB Ram and 160GB on the hard drive. The WiFi supports Bluetooth technology and it also includes N, and the standard G and B also. The battery of the unit is high powered and will hold a charge for as much as 9.5 hours. The screen consists of a matte finish. The AC cord of the machine has only two prongs, although most electricians will prefer 3 prongs. But the machine is a compact computer well suited for travelling, and it would be an advantage to not have 3 prongs if you land in a place that does not have 3 pronged outlets.

The machine's display screen remains one of its better features. You can view it at the side and will not see any distortions. The inversion of colors does not occur as in most notebooks, and prolonged viewing will not cause eyestrain. The keyboard is nicely spaced and quite responsive. One hand scrolling is possible with the new keyboard design, so that the touchpad and the mouse are not a necessity anymore.
